My Writing Story
An Unconventional Journey
A trained writer I am not
Follow accepted writing rules I will not
I am a Rebel Crone and will put into words as my heart sees fit—flaws and all
— Elisa
At the age of 58 I wrote my first novel, Buried but Never Forgotten. The year before I self-published, inspiration whispered in my ear that I was going to be writing a book. My reply – You got the wrong person cause this girl can’t write! In school I always waited until the night before a paper was due to start. Of course, I never got good grades becuase that is what I believed! What I created was a self-fulfilling prophesy that reflected the belief that I couldn’t write.
This time, spirit did not let me off the hook. The reply to my adamant denial was in essence – Yes, I am talking to you. You are to write a book and tell your story.
Never one to doubt spirit, I started to consider the idea. Many days later, in a flash of inspiration, the topic of the book came to me. I had been contemplating how to share my life experiences in a way that would be most compelling – and not autobiographical! Who wants to read about me, I thought and rightfully so. If I wrote a fictional account I could combine my incredible out-of-body experiences with all the things I love to research. All the hidden truths that are now surfacing in exciting areas like history, archaeology, and spirituality.
For the next year, I placed my head and heart in the writing crucible – which, if you don’t know anything about that special place, it is merciless. Writing is by far the most intense and difficult creative endeavor I have ever attempted, and this is from one who made a good living on her creative talents for many years.
In the end, my efforts paid off. I felt a deep sense of accomplishment and then, as a bonus, Buried but Never Forgotten went on to win a variety of awards. Nobel material, of course not. But novice acknowledgments, yes! It felt great. Since then, I have created my second novel, a follow up to the first, Awake and Aware. Note – with this la book I had the good sense to hire a writing coach. Money well spent learning the tools of this special trade.
Enough about me. Time to share my ‘Musings.’ I hope to entertain you, give you some pause for thought and maybe even inspire you to step out of your box of limiting self-beliefs and create something you never thought you could do!
